In 1889, the Disability Insurance Law newly created allowed the regional insurance agencies for the first time to perform even special treatments in the prevention of disability. Six years later, in 1895, the Landesversicherungsanstalt Hannover established the very first sanatorium in the Konigsberg in Goslar. Last used 1974-1984 by a foundation as a home for disabled children, a large part of the plant after 25 years of vacancy and decay. On June 25, 2009 was a victim of a devastating fire and again in 2009.
