Michael Bavero/The Daily ItemThe Selinsgrove Center, in Penn Township, Snyder County, is one of five remaining state-run institutions for the mentally disabled in Pennsylvania. Along with centers in Hamburg, Ebensburg, White Haven and Polk, Selinsgrove remained open when the state Department of Public Welfare in the mid-1990s began closing centers and moving mentally disabled people into group homes. Above, a portion of Selinsgrove Center, which occupies 56 buildings.
