The Tower Building as seen from the south. The pond in the front served as part of the air conditioning system when it was a medical hospital for the Security Benefit Life Association. The building was modeled after Independence Hall in Philadelphia. Construction began in 1923 on the central portion of the building. When completed in 1924, the furnishings of the 30 rooms were donated by councils of the SBA at the cost of $200. The names of those councils are inscribed on the terrazzo floors in the doorways. After purchasing the entire facility in about 1960, the Menninger Clinic used the Tower Building for offices, the museum, and the Professional Library. Kansas Historical Society
