History
A tour of the Woodford County Poor Farm will be sponsored by the Woodford County Historical and Genealogical Society on Thursday, May 9 at 7 p.m. at 1263 Mennonite Road. Jack Heinz, current owner of the property, will explain the history, current plans for building and a guided tour. Please note that there will be some stairs to climb. There is no cost for admittance and everyone is welcome. The Woodford County Home was established in 1867 and decommissioned in 1979. The 240-acre farm was a place for indigents to live and work. The male residents took care of the farm chores; the female residents took care of all the household chores, including making all the clothing and bedding. The home was a 24-room house with four stories.
