Industrial Schools were institutions designed to provide occupation and education to neglected and delinquent children. Often this education consisted of vocational training.

These schools were run by both public and private organizations; ranging from religious, municipal, and state administration. Often these schools provided habitation for the students and operated as an asylum or boarding school, with the students not being free to go and living on campus. However this is not always true and many municipal schools termed "industrial schools" operated simply as vocational day schools.
