NOTE: Philipsburg State Hospital was one of many hospitals built for coal miners in Pennsylvania, these hospitals were also referred to as state hospitals, this hospital was not a psychiatric facility.
Philipsburg State General Hospital was divested from the state in 1991 and operated for several years as Philipsburg Area Hospital. It filed for bankruptcy in 2007 and eventually closed. As of 2010, after reverting back to state ownership, the state is attempting to sell the property. The original buildings have been demolished. Like the other the other State General Hospital is most likely began as a hospital for Miners.
