History
Sunny Rest Sanatorium opened in December 1913 for the treatment as a private facility of all classes of cases of Tuberculosis or "Consumption". Maximum capacity for the facility at the time was 36 patients. The facility charged $10 per week to Racine County Patients or $12 to outsiders at the time of its opening.
Staff at the time of opening included:
Superintendent-Miss Elizabeth C. Carpenter. Medical Director: Dr. Theodore Brehm
The sanatorium was one-half mile from Gatliff, the nearest railway station, on the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railway lines and the sanatorium was easily reached by car from Racine. No further information on the closing date or demolish of the facility is currently available, but many of the facilities closed in the 1950's and 1960's due to advances in the treatment of Tuberculosis.
