Howdy
I just wanted to say hi. Unlike the old site software, this site software has a much stronger messaging system in that instead of private messages or a message at the bottom of the page, this new software dedicates a special talk page for every article and user page ever created. User talk pages are for almost anything the users want to talk about unless what they talk about violates a policy. Also, as you noticed when you logged in, there will be a large brownish orange banner at the top of your page alerting you to a new message on your personal talk page and it will stay there until you go and take a look. Article talk pages are great for discussing the article and ways to improve it. Plus they are also used to store information that does not need to be in the main page, like how many time's it's been featured, notices, warning, etc.
Another neat feature to talk pages is when you are having conversations with other editors, you can use a little bit of formatting to help make the conversations easier. One main bit of formatting which is easy to use and very helpful is this : For every one of those it tabs the entire message over one tab. Like this:
- This is an example of using the colon looks like.
- This is what using two colons look like.
Also, make sure to sign your name to every message you post on a talk page or other project page that requires you to sign. To sign your name, all you need to do is use this: ~~~~. There is also a button on the edit bar above when editing the page that looks kind of like a signature and you can click on that too to do the same thing. When you sign a message it will show your user name with a link to your user page, your user talk, the contributions you have done, and the time and date you signed your post.
Another cool thing you can do with signing, is that you can go into your user preferences and set up a special signature that will be applied every time you sign. You can use just about any time of HTML coding you would like, including changing colors, fonts, names, etc to make your signature even more unique.
Finally, I also wanted to point out that now there have been a few weeks of featured articles and images, I have started nominating articles and images instead of just straight creating the next featured articles and images. This means that you can chime in and vote as to whether what I nominated will be future featured articles or images. Also, at the same time, you can also nominated articles and images too for future featured articles and images. While somethings with that system may still need to be streamlined and made to look a little more pretty, I feel it is established enough for others to start chiming in and nominating their own things and voting on future stuff. I hope this helps a bit. P.S. as I send you this message I also see the site is still missing some features I'll have to add later! This is my signature -> M-Explorer 10:23, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
Had a question
Where were you getting those sanborns? They were cool looking and I ask because I had always wondered. Hopefully you'll get to add more to the database. Heck, while I am thinking about it, do you have more then one sanborn for the same institution, you know like one for one year then another twenty years or more later? - I had access for a short time to a map database & downloaded all available asylum maps. I'll go through & convert them from pdf then upload. There are several hospitals that have multiple years that I can add.Squad546 03:12, 16 March 2010 (UTC)

Question about image source
Hello Squad 546-I had a question about an image you posted in the gallery for Central State Hospital of Indiana; http://www.asylumprojects.org/index.php?title=File:CSH6.jpg Is this image out of copyright, and safe for use in an academic website? I would like to use it to accompany a description of the Supreme Court case Jackson v. Indiana 406 U.S. 715 (1972).
I will watch this page, and you can also contact me through the website where I would like to use the image: https://juvenilecompetency.virginia.edu/faculty-and-staff (my name is James, you can find my contact info at the bottom of the page).
Thank you, -James --Jmw6bh 16:08, 8 April 2016 (UTC)
- James, that photo is from an old annual report, early 1900s not sure exactly what year. It should be out of any copyright.

Hello! Hope you are well. I also have a question about an image that I want to use for a reposted interview. They talk about the Ionia state aslyum and I would like to use this image as the header: http://www.asylumprojects.org/index.php/File:Ioniastateasy.jpg Would this image be safe to use for my blog? Also, who should I attribute the image to. I will be watching this page, but you can also contact me through our website here: http://www.acpharos.com/contact-us
Thanks! -Rahni
