'''History'''

Sunny Rest Sanatorium began receiving tuberculosis patients in 1913. A board of three trustees, elected by the County Board of Supervisors, established policies and appointed a superintendent to manage the institution. Patients were admitted upon recommendation of a physician and approval by the county court. By the late 1950s, improved treatment and prevention of tuberculosis resulted in a sharp decline in the sanatorium's patient population. To promote efficient management, the sanatorium was combined with the other county institutions in 1960 under a single administrator. In 1962 the sanatorium was closed while an out-patient clinic was maintained to treat tuberculosis.

Sunny Rest Sanatorium opened in December 1913 for the treatment as a private facility of all classes of cases of Tuberculosis or "Consumption". Maximum capacity for the facility at the time was 36 patients.  The facility charged $10 per week to Racine County Patients or $12 to outsiders at the time of its opening.

The sanatorium was one-half mile from Gatliff, the nearest railway station, on the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railway lines and the sanatorium was easily reached by car from Racine. No further information on the closing date or demolish of the facility is currently available, but many of the facilities closed in the 1950's and 1960's due to advances in the treatment of Tuberculosis.
