History[edit]

Jefferson County Poor Farm Home for Whites, Louisville, Kentucky. A two-story brick building with a stone porch and a sidewalk. The Jefferson County Poorhouse was established in 1858 near Jeffersontown to provide a caring environment for the homeless poor. A single log building was replaced by multiple buildings. In 1915 a new two-story brick-and-stone building was constructed. A separate one-story facility was constructed for African Americans.
